An insight?

While watching March of the Penguins this weekend (which I wholeheartedly recommend; stunning cinematography, fascinating information, and baby penguins that are, as [info]dotknocker said, the cutest animals ever), it occurred to me: I want to travel. Travel is expensive. Therefore, I want someone to pay me to travel.

Which led to this thought: I wonder what it takes to become a travel writer?

I shall have to consider this.

I worked with a guy http://www.bway.net/~bastable/gate.html, who made his travel dreams a reality. He went on to work for a travel magazine. He hasn't updated his site in a while, and I saw on Media Bistro that he left his position to pursue freelance opportunities.

Personally, the less I travel, the better!

Read some Bill Bryson. He's a very good travel writer.
